About Eleanor Olszewski

The Honourable Eleanor Olszewski was elected to represent Edmonton Centre in the House of Commons in April 2025. Since May 2025, she also serves as Minister of Emergency Management and Community Resilience and Minister responsible for Prairies Economic Development Canada.

In her ministerial role, Eleanor works to strengthen Canada’s preparedness for natural disasters and emergencies, support communities in building resilience, and advance sustainable economic development across the Prairie provinces. She works collaboratively with partners across Alberta and the Prairies to seize new opportunities for growth and innovation—because a strong Alberta economy builds an even stronger Canada.

A graduate of the University of Alberta, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy with Distinction and a Juris Doctor, Eleanor built a distinguished legal career as a civil litigator in Edmonton. She specialized in commercial litigation, insurance defence, and administrative law, and became the first female partner at an Edmonton law firm.

As an advocate, Eleanor worked hard to ensure that her clients were treated fairly, and was appointed Queen’s Counsel in 2007. She has also served as an adjunct clinical professor at the University of Alberta.

The mother of two grown children, Eleanor lives in Edmonton with her husband Larry.
