Yesterday, I joined Prime Minister Mark Carney in Fort McMurray for an important announcement about Alberta and Canada’s energy future.
The new West Coast oil pipeline — now known as Pacific Link — has officially been listed as a project of national interest under the Building Canada Act.
This is what it looks like when we work together as a country: Canada and Alberta working alongside Indigenous Peoples, communities, and the private sector to build a project that can create opportunity here at home while strengthening our country as a whole.

What Pacific Link means for Alberta and Canada:
- More access to global markets: The pipeline would carry an additional one million barrels of Canadian oil per day to the West Coast, helping Canada reach growing markets in Asia.
- Good jobs: The project is expected to support 140,000 jobs across Canada.
- Economic growth: Pacific Link is projected to generate more than $20 billion in GDP each year.
- Partnership: Canada and Alberta will share equal ownership, with Indigenous communities offered a minimum 10% ownership interest.
- A clear path forward: The federal review process will continue over the next year, with the goal of finalizing project conditions by September 1, 2027.
| For Albertans, this is about getting more of our resources to market, creating good jobs, attracting investment, and ensuring our province remains at the heart of Canada’s economic future. |
| But it is also about something bigger. |
| Our new government believes Canada is strongest when we build together — when provinces work with one another, governments find common ground, and every region has the opportunity to contribute to our shared prosperity. |
| Our energy, workers, communities, and ambition are part of what makes this country strong. Pacific Link is one example of what we can accomplish when we work together as one country and build a more prosperous future together. |
There is still important work ahead. Over the next year, the Major Projects Office and the Canada Energy Regulator will continue consultations and review work on Indigenous rights, environmental protections, local hiring, community benefits, and other project conditions.
I will continue to keep you updated as this work moves forward.
